Half or Full?

Over the past couple weeks I have worked on various projects jumping between half and full scale.

I decided to try again at making corrugated roofing out of cardboard for Dakoda's full scale barn.

I think I am happy so far with the progress. This is where I left off. Someday I will finish it.

  

I ordered this half scale Hoosier cabinet kit from Scale Designs.

 

I should have ordered the assembled piece. This is how my unfinished cabinet is now.

Maybe once it is finished and the accessories are added, it won't look so bad.

Seems miniatures have been put on the back burner for the past couple weeks.

Here is what little I did today.

 

Added some white wash to the third level of the bricks. It may need some more, but I will decide that later after some trim is placed.

Put together a table I ordered from Petite Properties and worked on my stove. I found a great Hoosier cabinet kit and a 1930's fridge that I will have to order soon. 

The sink is also from Petite Properties. I am having a heck of a time finding some half scale faucets for this.

 

When I loaded my photos, I saw that Koda took some pictures of the girls resting.

Brick by Brick

Once I decided to have the third level all brick, it took a while before I had any motivation to paint a million little bricks again.

Almost done. Hope I have enough paint!

Overall back view. I have not made much progress on that. Still have to decide what each room will be. Any suggestions?

Half Scale Rosedale / Leon's Mansion

Because I was in Limbo, I decided to bust the half scale Rosedale that I got for Christmas out of the closet to give me something to work on.

Stair assembly

The resident of this home is a young man. Maybe he inherited the home from his grandparents. He will need to update the house over time.

I used printable wallpaper instead of purchasing some for this house.

Paneling for the living room with dark trim.

 I would like to find some 1970's carpet for the family room.

Sunflower paper for the kitchen.

I did not prime the wall so the paper has already yellowed. Perfect!

I had some green paper on hand that I placed in the bedroom.

Jennifer's Printables has a wonderfully gaudy paper that will go in the bathroom.

Once the paper is in the bathroom, I will add the third floor. I am undecided what will utilize that space. There are 2 arcade games I am watching on eBay that may be a good fit in there.

I received my sink from Petite Properties for Leon's Mansion. The stove seems smaller in scale in comparison to the sink. The other appliances and clutter should distract from that.

Both pieces need to be painted.

One of my friends sent me her extra parquet flooring that she had on hand so I could finish up the floor in the dining room.  Thanks Lee!!

Decisions, Decisions, Decisions

I have been struggling with how to finish off the third level of Leon's Mansion.

Any color that I have picked seemed to be top heavy. 

Didn't even care for the look of cream or white.

So I ran my dilemma past Brae. She suggested I brick the third level. What!? At first I thought that was crazy. But she photo shopped a picture of my house to show the potential it had. Really appreciated the visual - now I just have to start some more bricks.

Now with that pesky tower...

In the stock photo it looks great.

But when I look at mine, it seems out of place.

I made a rough peak to add to replace the tower. Lee and Julie pointed out that the new peak leaves the middle peak looking odd.

I tried a new rough mock up that would cover the middle peak up. But...

Not only does is seem off center from the bay, it looks like I just threw a triangle on the roof.

I could just leave that level flat. Once the railings are added it could be a (larger) widow's walk.

What Time Is It?

For now my bathroom is finished. Was so happy with it, until I realized that I have an older style bathroom and the time period does not coordinate with the kitchen.

 

I painted the brass frame on the peacocks picture brown.

Should I move the picture and add a shower curtain and shower head?

I will keep the bathroom accessible by having this wall attached by little magnets.

(toliet is the main thing that needs to be changed - agree?)

 

Door is not hinged. I had a spare door so I just glued it in place.

I found this half scale bathroom kit on the Greenleaf site that may be a more appropriate style for the time.

 

I have some furniture for the master bedroom. Will have to dress the bed.

I am torn between these two papers from Itsty Bitsy Mini for the bedroom.

Any opinions?? I could always have one in the nanny's room.

 

Instead of having a window overlooking the porch, I added a doorway. Aslo added all the porch trim.

Yes, I know - the tile looks busy on the porch. I am hoping a piece of white quarter round will break it up some.

 

The door is just a place holder.

 

Looking at my house in person, the blue is not that striking and I really like it. Looking at the photos it seems gawdy. Torn what to do on this also.

 

Fascia added. They need to be patched and painted.

 

Overall back view of house. I really dont like the tower. Again, not sure what to do here. Add another peek and make an attic space?

 

On Friday we went to Hobby Lobby to find some craft projects for Dakoda to do over the summer. She picked out a few things, but I asked her to try a small latch hook rug kit. I honestly didn't think she would like it - mainly because I was the one that suggested it. Once I showed her how to do it, we can't seem to pull her away from it!

She did require some additional help at times.
